Sail the Seven Seas at Gause - Gause Elementary
To help fund a themed literature day involving a guest reader, art projects, treasure hunts, and an assembly "Captain Bogg and Salty". Captain Bogg and Salty is an ensemble that combines original music and traditional legends to encourage student participation while providing skilled musicianship, clever story telling, useful facts, and an all-around good time. All students will go on a treasure hunt, having to follow a map and complete challenges. Older students will make compasses and learn how to use them. The primary students will have a presentation on birds, insects, and reptiles on behalf of Johnnie's Jungle.
Creating Sketchbooks and Journals - Cape Horn-Skye Elementary
A two day artist in residence at Cape-Horn (grades 3-5) involving lecture and demonstration. Merle Rosen, a well-known professional artist, will also encourage creativity, exploration, and experimentation, as students will work on personal sketchbooks and journals.
DUI Re-creation - Washougal High School
A DUI re-creation presented to all WHS students in the high school stadium to increase awareness of the devastating results of drinking and driving. The re-enactment focuses on the grim realities of making the decision to drink and drive. Fire trucks, police cars, ambulance units, the Jaws of Life, and the Life Flight helicopter will all be used in this emotional and heart wrenching event.
Learning and Growing with Math - Cape Horn-Skye Elementary
To purchase additional sets of math manipulatives to enhance the newly adopted math program, Growing With Math. Students will be able to work individually to more effectively learn and understand the mathematical concepts by using hands-on materials.
A Study of Historic Kinesthetic Movement: Pioneer Dance - Cape Horn-Skye Elementary
Fourth grade students at Cape will be introduced to the music and dance that was an important part of pioneer life and a key source of entertainment. Students will be taught the basic steps of these dances in their PE classes.
Meet the Creature, I Mean the Teacher from the Black Lagoon - Hathaway Elementary
Meet the Creature, I mean Teacher from the Black Lagoon is a culminating school wide activity for all Hathaway students. It will include inviting Mike Thaler, author of the Black Lagoon book series, to Hathaway School. He will provide two highly interactive motivational assemblies, which will feature Mike reading, cartooning, and teaching riddle making. An author chair will also be decorated and autographed by Mike Thaler. The author's chair will become a permanent fixture in the library for future authors to autograph and for students to sit in and read. After each assembly, the students will create their own riddle books in their classrooms.
Flip Forms to Sing, Act, and Dance - Cape Horn-Skye Elementary
To help purchase Flip Forms that will transform the classroom into a stage for plays, a backdrop, a dance floor, and can also be flipped around to produce seating for an audience.
